Unknown Military Style Flask Or Oiler Cannot Identify

Not sure exactly what this old metal flask like item is. It is approximately 7 inches high, 4 inches wide and about 1 1/2 inches deep. It has a rounded bottom where it cannot stand up and it is flat on the middle section of both sides.
The emtal is thin, but strong almost like the early canteens. The top or ldi is very unique. The lid is moutned by a bracket that is riveted to both sides of this flask. The top is a screw top with a cork type liner. As you unscrew the top it rises up and allows you to rotate the lid and bracket to one side only, there is a small lip hanging down on one side to prevent rotating the lid the other way. The name donnelley and s. F. Cal is stamped in very tihn letters on both flat sides of this flask. Seems to be soldered around the entire center portion which would make this a two-piece flask. May be used for whisky, powder or some type of lubricant, the cork in the lid makes me think it may be designed for some type of liquid. The olive drab painted finish makes me believe this may be some type of military flask and the soldered seam makes me believe this may pre-date ww1. Any comments or information appreciated. Shown next to a standard size zippo lighter for size comparison, zippo not included.
