You are bidding on a really unusual album of high quality prints of photographs taken by j. D. Givens.
The scenes are of american focres in the philippines during the spanish american war. tI shows. Some gruesome executions, hangings and other battle-related scenes. The book contains photos of famous filipino leaders such as aguinaldo, general cardenas and general pio del pilar. The photographer apparently accompanied soldiers on various missions. He aslo includes photos of women in japan and other asian scenes. Givens of san francisco took photos recording teh beheading and dismemberment of rebels. This compact album of some 215 photos include some superb shots of ethnic philippine natives from various islands & cultures, semi-nude women and natives. Other photos are of the americans soldier's base at camp stetsenberg near mt. Ariat, philippines, campaign photos, as well asedath and destruction in the philippines, the title of the album imprinted on the cover is scenes taken in the philippines, china, japan and on the pacific relating to soldiers. Also the cover notes copyrighted 1912 yb j. D. Givens. The book measures 3.5 by 7.
It is in very good condition. The back inside cover bears an inscription in pencil that is difficutl to decipher. |
