The original ribbon is slightly frayed at the top, but considering it's age, is in wonderful condition. It dated 1899 on the face. The reverse states united states army for service. This medal was awarded to soldiers who fought in the philippine islands during the spanish american war. As you can see, the pin and hook are the evry old style with no locking mechanism.
