Up for auction is a rare original 1898 premium giveaway from fairbank's fairy soap of teddy roosevelt when he was a colonel of the rough riders during the spanish american war. Great early image of a very stoic roosevelt in his rough riders cavalry regiment uniform complete with his trademark glasses and large american eagle belt buckle. An excellent image. The back has the great advertising for fiarbank's fairy soap and this would have been given away during the spanish american war as a premium piece for the company as a means to try and get people to buy the product. Tehse would have probably been printed for a limited time as the war was not long lasting and probably printed in very limited quantities. Unlike the veryearly cigarette cards of the day, this has a larger and more impressive size. Measuring almost 4 x 6 1/4 and on a great heavier weight cardboard type stock this does have some wear and a slight stain, mainly in the caption section as can be seen in the image, but just the fact that this survived all these mayn years is amazing. All in all a very exciting and rare early piece of pre-president teddy roosevelt and spanish american war history, as well sa a very early pproduct premium piece.
